Salisbury Steak
Today was awesome! It’s a beautiful day here in Boston. Tonight I got home from work and needed some comfort food so I decided to make some Salisbury steak. I remember when my mom used to make meals like sloppy joes, meatloaf and Salisbury steak. Those memories leave a warm fuzzy feeling in my heart.
Memories
My parents are the hardest workers I know. No matter how hard they worked and no matter how little we might have had at times, we were seriously rich – there was always a hot delicious meal on the table. I was taught at a very early age how important a good wholesome meal is. This was long before the science; long before nutrition was analyzed and long before the importance of macro ingredients were fully established. Mom knew, simply based on experience.
A night for Comfort Food
Tonight was a night where I just wanted a “made by mom” type meal. Rob and I are fully amid a hopefully temporary point of chaos in our lives. We may have the move to Boston behind us, but there are other things like selling our house in Nashville, immigration and more that need serious attention. A night like this called for my simple but delicious Salisbury Steak recipe.
Rob and I have a great marriage; we have been married for 7 years. Not always a delight but definitely worth the effort. Through the years, I’ve tweaked this Salisbury Steak recipe to make it into something special. It’s pure comfort and yields enough gravy to save a bit for another kitchen concoction later in the week. I hope you enjoy it.

- 1/2 1 oz pkg onion soup mix, dry
- 2 cups Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 tsp pepper
Gravy
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 cups mushrooms, sliced
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 tbsp flour
- 1/2 1 oz pkg onion soup mix, dry

Instructions
- Mix ground turkey, bread crumbs, egg, milk, and 1/2 packet onion soup mix, Worcestershire sauce, and black pepper together in a large bowl; shape into 6 patties.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties in hot skillet until browned, 3 to 5 minutes per side.
Gravy
- Melt butter in a separate skillet over medium-high heat. Saute mushrooms and onion until tender, 5 to 7 minutes.
- Stir flour and remaining dry onion soup mix into the mushroom mixture; stir until flour is integrated fully. Add beef stock while stirring and bring to a simmer.
- Reduce heat to medium and stir frequently, until the liquid thickens. Season with salt and pepper. Placed browned steaks into the gravy; simmer 30 minutes.
Notes
Serve steaks with gravy over rice.
