Boston Market District

To get a true sense of Boston, I’ve made a point to get to know my own community & the people that make it awesome. I recently visited the Boston Market District and enjoyed exploring 2 markets; Haymarket and the Boston Public Market.

The day may have been dreary but that didn’t affect the warm market atmosphere. There is something very special about this area of Boston and the people that work hard each day to preserve the local charm and rich New England history.

Haymarket

haymarket logoI first stopped by the outdoor Haymarket located between Hanover Street and North Street. Haymarket is one of America’s oldest open air markets, nestled in the heart of Boston’s historic downtown. It has been operating for almost 300 years and from dawn to dusk every Friday and Saturday, vendors continue the tradition of providing fresh produce at incredibly low prices.

I could not believe the quality, selection and prices! A nice little “secret” is to stop by at closing on Saturday; the prices are even better! Can you imagine getting an entire flat of blackberries for $1?

I couldn’t either – but I did!

The Boston Public Market

The Boston Public Market opened it’s doors in 2015 and boasts a beautiful indoor space for 40 local farmers, fishers and food entrepreneurs. There’s everything from farm fresh produce; meat and poultry; eggs; milk and cheese; fish and shellfish; bread and baked goods; beverages; flowers; and an assortment of specialty and prepared foods. Even better — everything sold at the Market is produced or originates in New England.

In the video, I highlighted only 6 of the market vendors. However, every single one of the market vendors boast the same passion, pride and a story that makes them unique. Rob and I moved to Boston in May and I cannot believe that it has taken me so long to realize what a gem we have in our own back yard. And, it’s open year-round!
