Sam’s Sports Bar

Rob and I decided to visit Sam’s Sports Bar tonight. By the look of this blog, I really do have an addiction.  Generally, Rob and I eat out every couple weeks, but 3 times in 1 week?  Really?!?!  We must have had a rough week.  I can’t wait to go grocery shopping tomorrow.

It’s finally Friday night.  Yeah!  Rob and I ventured up to Sam’s Sports Bar in Hillsborough Village area to catch the opening ceremony of the London Olympics.  The bar was alive with a young bustling crowd; cold beer, pub food and Friday night. The atmosphere at Sam’s has really improved since it became a non-smoking venue.

Tonight I opted for the  Southwest Grilled Chicken Salad ($7.49).  Maybe I’m wrong, but to me something “southwest” should include tomatoes, and maybe some corn and black beans in the least.  Well, I think maybe this salad got mixed up with something Asian! OK, so the honey lime dressing was unique but peanut sauce?  When did that become southwestern?

The tortilla strips (yes, ok… could be southwestern) were plentiful but a bit greasy and the overall balance of the dish was a little off – too many tortilla strips, not enough chicken (cold by the way), and lots of sauce (which didn’t taste southwestern).  Though tasty (kind of sweet actually) there was really nothing healthy about this salad.  Perhaps I would have given this salad higher reviews if it had been been named appropriately.

It will be unlikely that I try this salad again.  Some folks might adore this bowl of mixed up ethnicity – but to me, I found nothing unique or compelling about it worth repeating.
