Dalts American Grill

Tonight I dropped Rob off at karate and had to run a few errands before heading home.  I pulled into the Target parking lot off White Bridge Road and my stomach over-road any financial sense or sensibility I had left at that point in the day.  Our kitchen is full of leftovers from labor day weekend but somehow I found my car inching toward Dalts American Grill… the thought of a Chicken Salad was too much to bear.  Any excuse to devour a piece of grilled spiced chicken on fresh Romain was good enough for me.

What I Ordered

I was seated and in my trance-like state naturally ordered the Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken ($8.49).  It arrived promptly and I was immediately impressed; the chicken was nice and warm, the lettuce cool and crisp, and the croutons fresh.

It’s said, you can judge a man by his shoes… well, I judge a salad by the condition of the lettuce.  If a restaurant serves a salad with wilted lettuce, what else are they serving?  Wilted lettuce is a dead giveaway that the food isn’t fresh. Tonight at Dalts, the lettuce was as crisp as the moment it was picked.  That says a lot.

In Summary

The overall taste of the salad was good.  The chicken was nicely spiced and warm.  There was some cheese mixed amid the greenery and ultra fresh and crispy croutons in just the right proportion.  Crispy croutons are another indicator of the freshness of a salad.  A made to order salad shouldn’t have any softness to the croutons; Dalts were definitely fresh!

I thoroughly enjoyed my salad tonight at Dalts and will return again to enjoy another.  However, I might suggest that Dalts consider a slightly more flavorful dressing.  I have enjoyed many chicken Caesar salads through the years and the dressing on this salad could have had a wee bit more impact on me.  If I wasn’t so picky, I wouldn’t even mention the dressing.  Was there anything wrong with it? No, absolutely not… but – could it have been a little bit more flavorful?  Yes.  That said, I’m already looking forward to my next Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken at Dalts.
