Chocolate Strawberry Hearts

These Chocolate Strawberry Hearts are the perfect way to say “I love you” for Valentine’s Day (or whenever)! So often, holidays bring a plethora of sugar and calories. What holiday doesn’t involve food? I can’t think of one!

I’m not saying these treats don’t have sugar or calories (they do!) but, the ingredients are wholesome. I recommend using a good quality dark chocolate vs. milk chocolate for these delicious Chocolate Strawberry Hearts. The chocolate makes all the difference with this recipe.

What I love the most about this recipe, is the fact that you likely have all the ingredients in your cupboard right now. Though construction of these Chocolate Strawberry Hearts may seem a bit tedious to assemble, the surprise will be well worth it.

In the video below, I crafted my Chocolate Strawberry Hearts with a peanut butter filling. A hazelnut or chocolate spread would be just as nice.

You may decorate your Chocolate Strawberry Hearts with sprinkles, white chocolate or cookie decorating icing. Be creative and have fun.This is a treat that will not be forgotten. Make it with love and enjoy every morsel.

Chocolate Strawberry Hearts

Ingredients

  • 12 strawberries, fresh
  • 2 tbsp peanut butter, or hazelnut spread
  • 10 oz chocolate chips, dark
  • 2 oz chocolate chips, white

Supplies

  • 24 toothpicks
  • parchment paper

Instructions

  1. Slice each strawberry in half. strawberry hearts
  2. Chisel one-half of each strawberry to fit, over other when placed flat to form heart shape.
  3. Spread peanut butter (or hazelnut butter) between two strawberry pieces and secure each berry with 2 toothpicks. Spread melted chocolate over backside of heart.
  4. Place in refrigerator for 15 minutes, until nut butter and chocolate becomes firm.
  5. Remove from refrigerator, and twist out toothpicks. Spread melted chocolate evenly over berry. If decorating with sprinkles, apply them now. Place berry on parchment paper and return to refrigerator for 15 minutes. 
  6. Decorate with melted white chocolate drizzles. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
